JetSet VIP invites you to take an unforgettably scenic tour to the Valley of Fire, a fairly compact park located about 60 miles north-east of Las Vegas along interstate 15. This truly unique place totals 46,000 acres and is located only 50 to 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Although three Nevada state parks were officially declared open on the same date in 1935, Valley of Fire state park actually opened for visitors a few months early, making it the first state park in Nevada.
The red rocks which give the park its name are the main attraction. The rock, mostly sandstone, was formed when huge sand dunes compacted over time, with layers of different colors being created as sand and water mixed with different minerals was moved from different places into the same final location. The "cross bedding" of different colored rock layers in this example below is beside the road out to Fire Canyon.

The Valley of Fire contains many unique archeological sites that began forming some 150 million years ago. Elephant Rock, the most photographed of all, is among the dozen or more popular ones, as is Beehives, Seven Sisters and Atlat1 Rock, to name a few. Once an ancient hunting ground to the Anasazi Indians, the Valley of Fire is an unforgettable stop yielding an abundance of well preserved Indian petroglyphs and incredible display of botanical desert fauna.
The Navajo Sandstone is the same formation found in Red Rock Canyon, along the North Shore Road of Lake Mead at places like 'Redstone' and in nearby places such as Utah's Zion National Park to name just a few. The red colors in the sandstone is a byproduct of the minerals in the rock, principally iron oxides.
